Ten Rules for New Rabbit Exhibitors
Do:
Don’t:
Most Importantly!
Ask lots of questions. And listen to the answers.
- Join your local Rabbit Club
- Seek the advice of experienced Rabbit Exhibitors. Ask your local Club who they recommend.
- Go to your local rabbit show, if possible, to meet other members and to see the breeds and colours that are available.
- Lots of research. Look online for information on local Clubs, available breeds and colours. Remember that Australia does not have all the breeds and colours they have overseas.
- Start with one or two breeds and only a few colours that are compatible.
Don’t:
- Buy on impulse!
- Believe everything you hear! Always check with an experienced rabbit exhibitor that regularly shows at a local Club.
- Buy on the ‘cuteness’ factor or buy lots of different colours as later on you may find they are not compatible for breeding together.
- Set your heart on getting particular colours or breeds. Some colours are harder to get than others or may not be available at all.
- Buy very expensive rabbits without seeking advice. Best quality is not always the most expensive.
